Wookey Hole Caves
A beautiful guide book – Wookey Hole Caves, Wells, Somerset, The River Axe In The Cave, Exclusive Camera Studies – of sepia photographs bought for one pound from Deptford Market. These collages were constantly re – made, often with previous images removed, this, sometimes tore the pages. I lost several collages during this, the aged paper literally disintegrating. I stopped making each collage when each, was, just so. This concertina book was printed on an old stock green Ingres paper, which is no longer produced. The cover is covered with a vintage book cover cloth stocked at the London Centre for Book Arts. Later in another Wookey Hole guide book I read that paper was made there from around 1600 onwards and a Wookey Hole watermark (a witch with hat) was registered in 1783. This connection between place, paper and my book pleases me immensely.
